The feature has been available since 2021 on mobile devices, Android, and iOS. Temporary photos and videos disappear after being viewed and cannot be downloaded by the recipient. The function was created to enhance user privacy.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature has been available for ‘a few weeks’ to some users and has been tested for about a year. Meta’s concern was to ensure the security and privacy of all users, including in the Web version of WhatsApp.
